Embracing Vitiligo
– 2019 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Honorable Mention
– Exhibited at the Sunrise Civic Center Gallery
This piece is a self-portrait I did to show my journey with vitiligo and how I have finally learned to embrace myself. I have had vitiligo since I was five years old and struggled with my self-esteem because of it. Now, I've learned to love myself for who I am and what makes me special. The Party's Over
– 2020 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Gold Key
– Smithsonian Teen Portrait Competition Finalist
– Congressional Art Competition 9th Grade Honorable Mention Winner
– Exhibited at the Sunrise Civic Center Gallery
– Exhibited at the Young at Art Museum Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Exhibition
This is my eighty-eight-year-old grandmother, Beatrice, whom my family calls Bubbe Bea. She was a working mother who started a law firm and has worked tirelessly ever since. In this photo titled, “The Party’s Over,” I wanted to capture her being tired after having a fun and lively time. I ensured her body language reflected her life and how, after all of the “partying” in it, she now gets to relax and settle down.

Just One More
– 2021 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Honorable Mention
In this piece, I wanted to depict the slippery slope drugs and alcohol. If a person has the mentality of "Just One More", then they can easily become a victim of addiction.

"Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy ride"
– 2021 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Honorable Mention
This photo was taken on a bus ride from Cape Cod to Boston. There was a young couple sitting in front of me with their heads resting on each other, so I decided to capture the precious moment.

Reflection of Pain
– 2021 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Honorable Mention
In this photo, my mother was crying when we were at a family friend's house listening to songs on their jukebox. The song "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong started playing, and my mom start crying. She always crys to this song since it reminds her of my sister's preschool graduation.

21st Century Couple
– 2021 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Honorable Mention
I captured a moment between my parents when they were relaxing and thought to myself how this refelcts today's world. Parents love to complain how kids don't read anymore, yet I "caught" them being on their phones.

The Glass Ceiling
– 2021 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Silver Key
Merriam-Webster defines the term glass ceiling as “an intangible barrier within a hierarchy that prevents women or minorities from obtaining upper-level positions”. In my piece, “The Glass Ceiling”, I wanted to portray how women, especially of color, are silenced and viewed as inferior to men in the workplace. Female workers face discrimination due to their gender and other factors like their race or ethnicity. Women are paid less, harassed, evaluated more harshly, and looked over for promotions. Those are just some examples of what women have to go through every day while trying to make a living for themselves. I had my mother, a Hispanic and Native American woman, model for me to represent all of the other women like her who experience this discrimination. The man in power is silencing her, not just literally, but is silencing her input, ideas, and sense of identity. This issue is important to me because, as a woman of color, I will soon be entering the workforce and will, unfortunately, have to face this. Others need to see this issue since it stumps the progression of equality and allows for this type of treatment to continue.

Playtime's Over

I was visiting my little cousin in Boston, and we were playing on the swings. All of a sudden, he hopped off and lied down on the floor. I asked him what he was doing and he said he was done playing, so I took my camera and photographed him lying down.

Modern Day Rapunzel
– 2021 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Gold Key
– Exhibited at the Young at Art Museum Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Exhibition
During the COVID-19 pandemic, my grandmother was very isolated. This made me realize how limited her life became for her and others her age. I wanted to express in this photo how the elderly are the new "Modern Day Rapunzel".

One of the Boys

I was walking around in Wynwood with my camera and I saw these group of guys walking. I thought nothing of them until I heard a bark. I looked down at the ground and saw this little dog walking with them and acting as if he was one of the boys.

Bubbe Bea's Garden

My grandmother loves her weekly newspaper. She reads it everyday and always cuts out articles that reminds her of her family. I wanted to capture this unplanned moment of her reading the paper.
